Steak in Cast Iron Skillet | SweetSavour
My husband is a meat lover, and it doesn’t get better than cooking steak in a cast iron skillet. We like buying the flank steaks, they’re thin and easy to cook, and have a lot of flavor. This recipe is super easy, requires minimal ingredients and will only take you 20 minutes to cook!
- Broccoli (or other veggies of choice, we also use mushrooms)
- Flank steaks (enough for the number of people you are serving)
- Quinoa (or rice of choice)
- 1-2 chicken bouillon cubes (or 1-2 tsp)
- Pinch of salt
- Garlic salt (to taste)
- 1-2 T Olive or Avocado oil
- Sauce for steak (optional)
- Oil & salt (for broccoli)
I used quinoa for this recipe, and I have a handy way of flavoring it, no lie, my husband hated quinoa, but now I can make it with any dish, he loves the way I make it! Follow typical directions in that you want to rinse the quinoa really well, add the correct ratio of water to quinoa (for the number of servings you want) which is usually 1 part quinoa and 2 parts water. I then add a cube or tsp of chicken bouillon powder per cup of water and a pinch of salt – makes it taste SO good. Bring to a boil, lower the temperature, and cook with a lid for 15-20 minutes.
Next, you’ll want to cook your broccoli, I like to broil it in the oven with some oil and salt, that way you have a nice texture that’s not rubbery or mushy. If you don’t want to have to worry about keeping an eye on it, set the oven to 350 degrees (increase to 400 if you want to cook it faster) and let it bake while you cook.
The best way to get a crisp edge on the steak is to pre-heat your skillet with a little oil. Be careful with the heat and oil, I burn myself all the time – even a long sleeve shirt, using tongs, and if you want, oven mitts, can save you from the hot oil. With the flank steaks, it really shouldn’t take more than 3-5 minutes for each side to cook. I add garlic salt to the steak for flavor and leave it at that, super simple!
Serve the steak over the quinoa w/ your broccoli, and if desired, a sauce to dip in. Enjoy!
